The International School is hiring for Summer Camp!

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible educators to join our Summer Camp team as hybrid Group Leader & Floating Aides. Group Leaders lead a group of campers in English during our extended-day program after camp ends which includes supervising outdoor play, planning and leading activities, serving snack, and keeping campers safe during program. During the Camp day, Floating Aides are essential to the success of our busy and engaging language immersion camp. Floating Aides may assist in the classroom, organize games, cover breaks, and more. DATES 2021: June 28- August 6 with orientation required prior to the start of camp.

(All summer staff must participate in training in May and/or June. When feasible, all trainings will be held virtually)

HOURS: Part-time and full-time available, Monday-Friday

PAY RATE: $17/hr, depending on experience

General Summary

A full-time seasonal hybrid position reporting to the Summer Camp Director (as Floating Aide) and to the Global Kids Program Manager (as Group Leader).

Group Leader: Lead an assigned mixed-age group in the after camp program. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: set up and clean up of program, facilitate the transition to the after camp program, supervise outdoor free play, serve snack, plan and lead enrichment activities, and facilitate dismissal. Staff are responsible for planning and implementing activities related to camp themes; managing classroom behavior using positive and culturally responsive behavior strategies, and creating a safe, welcoming, child-friendly environment. Staff are responsible for taking student attendance, ensuring that children are supervised 100% of the time, and communicating with parents, Program Manager, and other TIS staff and volunteers as needed.

Floating Aide: Ensure camp is a safe and fun environment for all campers; act as additional supervisor, teacher's helper, and break coverage staff. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Supervising children in the classroom, during recess, and on field day and field trips; assisting with set-up and take-down of camp activities and supplies; and covering classrooms during staff breaks.

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience as a lead teacher working with groups of children, preferably in a summer camp or school setting
  • Proficient in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese.
  • Comfortable in an international community with experience living and/or traveling overseas and studying other languages.

Training Requirement (all may be acquired online after hire)

  • Enrollment in the Oregon Office of Child Care Central Background Registry
  • Current Food Handler's Card
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid
  • Completion of the Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS) course offered through the Oregon Office of Child Care
  • Completion of Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) or similar course within the state of Oregon
