Global Kids Extended-day Program at the International School of Portland

The Global Kids Extended-day Program at The International School is hiring Group Leaders (Lead teachers) to work with our Early Childhood (age 3 -4) students each day after school. Group Leaders lead their students through Group Circle, Snack, Recess, and structured Enrichment activities each afternoon. Group Leaders teach in English in the Global Kids Extended-day Program. Pay Rate:

$16.00-$17.00/hour, Depending on experience


Extended-day Discount: Staff children receive 75% off extended-day program fees while they are at work

School Tuition Discount: Staff children receive tuition remission at a pro-rated amount determined by the regularly scheduled weekly hours. A staff who works 14.75 hours/week or 0.37 FTE would receive about a 18.5% discount. Staff are also welcome to apply for financial aid in addition to the staff discount.

Schedule: Typical schedules are listed below. Actual schedule to be determined by Global Kids Manager and program needs.

  • Regular School Days:
    • 3:00-5:45pm Monday, Thursday, Friday
    • 2:00-5:45pm Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Alternative Days/No School Days:
    • 7:30am-4:00pm - 6 days throughout year
  • Alternative Breaks/School Break Weeks: Pending sufficient enrollment
    • Thanksgiving- 2 days - 11/22 & 11/23/2021
    • December Break- Week 1- 4 days - 12/20- 12/23/2021
    • Spring Break- 5 days- 3/21- 3/25/2022

Location: South Waterfront area of downtown Portland near OHSU tram & streetcar. TIS is easily accessible by freeways, public transit, and bicycle. Walking distance from PSU and OHSU. TIS provides parking passes to staff.

General Summary:

The Group Leader is a part-time position reporting to the Global Kids Program Manager. Group Leaders lead a group of up to 10 early childhood (preschool) students on their own or up to 20 students with an Assistant in the Global Kids Extended-day Program at the International School of Portland. Group Leaders plan fun and engaging enrichment activities for their students and lead their assigned group throughout the program activities including picking them up from school, supervising outdoor play, serving snack, leading enrichment activities, and dismissing students. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to health screening, sanitizing, taking attendance, planning and implementing lessons, managing classroom behavior using positive strategies. All staff are expected to create a safe, welcoming, child-friendly environment; ensuring that children are supervised 100% of the time they are at Global Kids Program. Staff are also expected to communicate effectively and positively with students, families, supervisors, school staff, and other community members.

COVID-19: All staff are expected to follow the Operational Blueprint of The International School as well as the Oregon Early Learning Division guidelines & best practices for keeping children, staff, and families safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oregon Office of Childcare: The Global Kids Program is a state licensed child care center. The Global Kids Manager will guide staff in the steps necessary to comply with the state license, which can be completed at the time of hire.

Required Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience as a lead teacher with children age 3-5 in a school, after school program, or similar group setting environment such as summer camp
  • Proficient in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience living abroad and/or working in a multilingual & multicultural environment
  • Two year degree
